“Having spent many years living in South Africa, I am familiar with Pieter-Dirk Uys and very much respect and admire him. I loved the show and feel he is a wonderful ambassador for the politics and lifestyle in the country. Also loved his use of characters and the easy flow in which he switched from one character to the other onstage. In using humor to illustrate and poke fun at serious subjects, we often pay more attention. I agreed with Uys’ tone and repartee and appreciated how he was able to throw in some ridiculous comments (such as the Spice Girls being in the group of “democratic figures”) which could break up some of the heartache for the abominable situations in South Africa and Zimbabwe.” -Gabrielle Y.
“Fabulous! You are so brave and so talented, thank you for your brilliant look at both US and South African political craziness. Robert Burns wrote of the wish to see ourselves as others see us; Pieter-Dirk Uys view of us and S. Africa is so instructive AND hilarious, utterly hilarious!” -Informationista Elaine
And some additional responses from this weekend…
“I did not find anything different about your performance than that seen 15 years ago other than some of the subject matter. I found the performance mediocre. The only conversation it sparked was with the rest of my family who found it good but they had never seen Pieter before.” -Barry S
“This was a wonderful performance. While it was often hilarious it was also quite sad in some ways. Having returned from South Africa recently and having been in Bloemfontein during a “racial crisis” my husband and I experienced first hand much of what was presented in the performance. The performance was great. We had an interesting conversation with the couple who sat with us, but mostly I find that I very much want to know and learn so much more about South Africa’s past, present and future.” –JudithK
“Thank you! The performance was really engaging and Pieter-Dirk Uys ability to transform himself, and at such speed, was impressive.” -Melissa W.
