Opening night, and our hard work seems to have paid off—we gave a terrific performance; the audience was a bit reserved, but there were cheers at the end. Robert joined us onstage for the bows—he’s leaving us in the morning, flying out to rehearse the San Francisco Opera in the Philip Glass opera “Appomattox”, which he is directing. The American ambassador threw a cast party for all three American Companies—Tricia Brown, Mabou Mines, and American Repertory Theatre (us). I missed seeing Tricia, who is in Hawaii, but I hung out with some of her dancers. I also got to see Mabou Mines director Lee Breuer and his amazing leading actress Maude Mitchell. But our schedules totally overlap, so our company won’t get to see their production of “Doll’s House” (which I saw in Rome a few months ago) at the Kings Theatre.
