Edinburgh X – 8/20


This show is technically challenging as some scenes are completely sung, others spoken–and still others that contain both. But it’s not about having to choose whether to play the scenes like a singer or an actor per se: both impulses incorporate the same dramatic muscle, albeit one that sometimes needs to be flexed in different ways, often within the span of a moment (more dramatic emphasis here, some crucial vocal adjustment there). The big challenge is to be true to the music and the words, sometimes simultaneously, sometimes—exclusive of one another.
