in this transition time i haven’t even settled on what i should call these notes. and from where. where am i? i still haven’t unpacked.
“it took an age for the river to find it’s bed”
we have begun. the enemy is fear. today we work on/play with my becoming human. begin/continue this life long process.
frieda saw john malkovich walking on brattle street. john and i re-united. i stalked john when he was doing BURN THIS in los angeles. invited him to my wedding. saw the production about 15 times just to watch his gift. i won’t be seeking him out, while here in cambridge. too busy becoming a man. i am in heaven.
this bakery called hi-rise. in the shadow of my apartment.
a group of five sit at the table across me in this small room in new england. (i find out later they are theology students at wesleyan)
theology. they are talking of Jesus Christ. in an intelligent way.
one woman is an albino. she looks like rutger hauer from blade runner. one man wears a red sweater and plaid shirt underneath. his voice quiets when he speaks of islam. on either side of him are folk from asia. a young dorky looking fellow with spectacles sits across him and next to the albino. when he speaks, his light shines. the dork transforms to a wise seeker. a young wise seeker with a deep resonant voice. i am in heaven, sitting near them.
gideon, we must be in communication with all the theology and divinity students and departments of all the colleges. i would love to be parts of discussions in classes or after the show. we should really tap this group. let’s talk. Read the rest of this entry »

it’s all nonsense.
this clean shaven face full of 2 day’s stubble. the hair on the head perhaps now too long.
“i want a hat to match the face, i’m in disguise, darlin’, don’t want to call too much attention to myself.”
in fact i don’t exist.
“you can’t see me, but you know i’m here.”
i’m about to board flight 1899. i’m on delta flight 1899. seat 10D. i am the row directly behind first class. oh so close. . . i have leg room. i am on the aisle. i like to look out the window. i love to see the earth below. i just love it. Read the rest of this entry »

felt compelled to write something just because of the date. 11/11
my Godson’s soccer number is 11. he played this morning and i got to watch him. beautiful john, running after the ball. his left arm tight, bent at the elbow, holding his left hand like a dog’s paw. the right arm relaxed and swinging free. running after the ball.
saw my beautiful father today. he looks healthy and happy. and oh so lonely. he shaved his moustache this morning. or rather it was shaved for him by accident. the first time he has been clean shaven in about 65 years. he looks like a new born. Read the rest of this entry »

these are my final words from amsterdam.
i am on the verge of tears. doing that throat choke thing to stop the tear flow. letting it relax. letting it go. it is all about letting it go.
my stupid heart has been broken again. what a stupid heart. what a fool for love.
“we’re saying good-bye at the inner most door.”
renate and i. this is life. the reality screams and shouts and knifes to be embraced. reality is so fucking greedy. it demands so much attention. all the time. fucking reality. reality will kill you if it’s not at the center of your attention.
i am at the airport, looking for love. my plane leaves in about 20 minutes. i will arrive in los angeles at 3:20PM. i suppose i’ll go to pasadena. but who knows really. plans are full of shit. the most important plans. reality could give a shit about one’s plans. and yet the aim is all. the flash that reveals damiel at the top; i think i should be writing in my notebook. standing. perhaps the action is to write the last letter and the period and then close the book. put away the pen. all in the flash.
why do i say this first poem? the notebook, as the one prop must take on greater significance. our treatment of it, fuller. we had a fruitful rehearsal last night. mark, ola and i. lasted from 20:30 until 1:30.
included two bottles of wine and luscious syrian food. such kindness. ola and her mom. and kit kats. Read the rest of this entry »

this is devil’s night in detroit. cardinals win series 4 games to 2.
we have had 3 days off. the body recovers a bit. falling in and out of love. takort.
letting go. everywhere letting go.
to not get in harm’s way.
mark rosenthal arrives tomorrow. we go to rotterdam.
stayed up all night again with harm and renate and their friend rueben. such good people. i like being around them. slept on their couch from 8 until 10:30. ate pancakes for lunch. time to go home. it’s 18.13 and the sun is gone gone gone. the clocks changed. Read the rest of this entry »

this is, arguably, my favorite spot in amsterdam. on this little dock of cafe t’smalle on egelantiers gracht just outside the prinsengracht. near a little bridge simply marked “124″. marked not to be identified by the public but for some city worker who might be involved in repairing it. bridges sometimes need repair i think of the williamsburg bridge. they have been working on it as long as i have known it. as long as i’ve been trying to cross it. i no longer have the need.
i just ordered the soep van de dag. i think it might be asparagus. i said ja to the waiter. and ordered the gerootke kip, sla, komkommer and kerriesaus. this comes with brood. Read the rest of this entry »

i cleaned this table at koffie salon on utrechtstraat. a four top filled with the remnants of four beautiful and fortunate people. so i could sit near this electrical outlet. two beautiful women sit on the couches in the back. to be near the outlet for this computer.
i write now on battery power. the electrical thing for the computer forgotten in my forgotten apartment. the outlet like the water of antarctica. Read the rest of this entry »

Today, the Boston Globe published Louise Kennedy’s review of Wings of Desire. Here are some excerpts:
“‘Wings of Desire’ opens in mystery, in darkness pierced by a flash of light. An angel sits, listening, flanked by columns of — yes, it is sand, streaming down in radiant beams. Then darkness again.
“And then such light, such beauty, such air and life and time and timelessness as theater can, but too rarely does, bestow. ‘Wings of Desire’ is a stage adaptation of the 1987 Wim Wenders film, it’s true. But it is a purely theatrical experience.”
